Up to 80–90% fewer slices and how a simple trick on your glove reduces mishits in seconds!

Two golf instructors from the Frankfurt area have discovered that the grip — not the swing — is the main cause of slices and hooks in 4 out of 5 amateurs. And why no coach can truly teach you this.

Ball flight

You know the feeling. The ball is barely off, and you already know – too early. It drifts to the right, far from the fairway, and the mental self-talk begins again: arm, hip, shoulder, head… what was it this time? You’ve practiced for hours at the range. You’ve watched YouTube videos. Maybe even taken lessons. And still: the mishits persist.

This is no coincidence. And it's not your fault either.

“In my career, I’ve coached thousands of amateur golfers. At least 80 percent of them have one and the same problem – and it doesn’t start with the swing. It starts the moment they grip the club. The grip is the only connection between you and the club. If this connection is wrong, no swing in the world can correct it."

Slice, Hook – and why more practice won’t get rid of either

The slice – where the ball curves to the right (for right-handers) and lands far off the fairway – is the most common mishit for amateur players worldwide. It occurs when the clubface is open at impact. The hook is the opposite: the clubface is closed, the ball flies to the left, often powerfully into the rough or a bunker.

What both mishits have in common: they share a common source. Not the swing plane. Not an overly fast tempo. The cause lies before the backswing — in the grip.

"Every shot you play with an incorrect grip trains your muscle memory for errors. You're not practicing to improve – you're practicing to fail."

The tricky part: a grip that is too strong or too weak feels familiar. It feels right because it has always felt that way. Your body compensates with the swing, with the wrist, with the entire upper body — just to correct the faulty starting position. With every practice, this faulty pattern intensifies.

Worse still: when you're on the course, under pressure, in front of friends or in a tournament, your body reverts to its deepest muscle memory. And that's the wrong one.

What golf experts worldwide confirm

Golf experts and biomechanics coaches agree: for the vast majority of amateur golfers, the main cause of mishits lies in the grip — not in the swing. An incorrect grip inevitably leads to an open or closed clubface at impact. No other factor can be corrected as quickly and directly.

Grab Perfect – Neutral Clubface
80–90%
of amateur golfers struggle with slice or hook — the grip is considered the first and most important control point.

The crucial point: anyone who brings their grip into a neutral position before each shot eliminates the source of error at its root — without swing analysis, without expensive lessons, without additional training.

How a glove makes the problem visible

Martin Crosthwaite knows this phenomenon from 40 years of practice. As a coach, he saw daily how even advanced golfers fell into old habits when picking up the club — as soon as he wasn't actively correcting them. "The problem is: a coach is only next to you on the range. On the course, on hole 14, you're alone."

He experimented with visual aids until he became aware of the Hessian startup Grab Perfect — which had solved exactly this problem with something every golfer wears anyway: the glove.

The Neutral Grip: What it is, and why it changes everything

A neutral grip means that the clubface is perpendicular to the target line at impact – not twisted, not open, not closed. It is the only grip position that allows for controlled, straight ball flight.

The problem: feeling the neutral grip is difficult. For most, it feels "wrong" because the body has stored the incorrect grip as the normal state. What is needed is a visual reference system — one that is subconsciously perceived every time you grip the club.

This is exactly the core of the Cabretta Pro 2.0: precisely calibrated black lines on the glove show the correct grip position. You immediately see: Is my grip correct? In less than a second, before each shot.

The Scottie Scheffler Principle
Why world-class players do what you omit

Scottie Scheffler, world number 1, literally checks his grip before every single shot before each round. Not because he's a beginner — but because he knows: no muscle memory guarantees that the grip is automatically correct. The best in the world check what amateurs take for granted.
